Services and Grants
Q: How can my animal qualify for assistance from the Chester Foundation?
A: Decisions are made following an examination by a licensed veterinarian at one of our participating hospitals. Based on the financial needs, a treatment plan will be created to meet the medical needs. Funding is typically made to partially cover costs with the expectation that the pet owner provide funds as well. Grants are dependent upon funds available. Please complete the form on the Contact Us page to provide details on your financial status and the emergency medical condition of your animal companion.
Q: Do I have to live in the Greater Sacramento area?
A: Yes – we support the medical needs of pets that reside in the following counties: Amador, Butte, Calaveras, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba.
Q: What services are covered?
A: The Chester Foundation provides funds to cover material and labor costs while assuring timely delivery of care. Services are limited to providing emergency medical care for immediate, life threatening conditions.
Q: How are payments for medical services handled?
A: The Chester Foundation will only make payments directly to the medical service provider.
Q: What are the funding options?
A: Support to pet owners comes primarily in the form of partial grants, depending on the needs and ability of the pet owner to contribute to the costs of care.
Q: Does the Foundation take in stray animals?
A: No, but we do provide services for strays in support of local animal shelters. Our mission is to provide medical care for animals that have immediate medical needs. We do have the expectation that with care it is reasonable that the animal will have a good quality of life (high likelihood of recovery).
Q: Does the Foundation offer services to all animals?
A: Our focus is on companion animals such as dogs and cats. We provide support for immediate care needs. Funds are not available for long term and/or chronic medical care needs.
