A Flea Bite Can Become Serious

A Flea Bite Can Become Serious

It’s that time of year again when fleas start to appear on our pets.

There are several products on the market to effectively rid your pets and home of fleas.  For some pets all it takes is one flea to cause a reaction at the site of the bite.  The reaction can range from minor redness and swelling to skin infections or even self-inflicted wounds from itching and scratching.

This was the case with Marchello, a 12-year old orange tabby.  He had scratched  at the flea bite until he created an infected open wound on his back that was extremely painful.  To get better his wound would need to be shaved, cleaned, and treated with antibiotics and steroids.   This posed a financial burden to his owner who recently underwent surgery and fortunately had family who recently took her and her pets in so she would not be homeless.

The Chester Foundation was created to help families during difficult times, allowing their pets to get the medical care they need and deserve.  Marchello is getting the care he needs because of our donors!
